ADVANCED OIL STUDIO

In this advanced level class, students work on larger, more complicated paintings, beginning with simple portraits and working up to figures, animals, landscape, and architecture in various settings. We will make use of models as needed, as well as taking trips into the field to paint plein air studies and to gather photographic reference material for our compositions.
Enrollment is long term, and students are admitted by portfolio review only, with preference given to students concurrently registered in other Classical Art Academy classes.
Tuition is $150 per month. Unfortunately, the structure of this class makes it impossible to use substitutes to defray the cost of missed classes.
Reviews
Michelle Philip's advanced oil-painting class at the Classical Art Academy was everything I had hoped for and more. Having studied oil painting at the Lacoste School of the Arts in France and at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, I had already taken many oil painting classes, when I enrolled at the Classical Art Academy this past summer. In just ten weeks, Michelle taught me color-mixing techniques which have taken my skills to an entirely new level. Her clear and patient communication style, combined with an incredible depth of classical art knowledge, make Michelle Philip an ideal teacher for the beginner as well as the advanced student. I enjoyed the intimate class size and thought the cost of tuition to be very reasonable. I would recommend Michelle Philip as a teacher to anyone interested in learning or refining classical oil-painting techniques. The best art class I've ever taken! Linda Biederman
We all want somehow to be ourselves but "better". Michelle Phillip has somehow intuited where I want to go, suggesting how to get past my own roadblocks, giving me a path of hope, while simultaneously respecting "where I come from". Tremendously interesting! Dicksie Sandifer
Michelle Philip has restored my enjoyment of art. Her encouragement, instructions, helpful tips and demonstrations help students progress and understand how to make beautiful art while developing their own style. The friendly, supportive atmosphere in her classes make them the highlight of my week...and the other students are great too! I've learned more in 1 year w/ Michelle than I did as an art major at university, plus she gave me back my love of art. Leslie Lea
Even though I went to art school I always felt I didn't get the fundementals of painting. Within 3 classes I felt I had received more than a semester of information. She is incredibly knowledgable, patient, and encouraging. I would HIGHLY recommend her as a teacher for anyone (whether you are a beginner or advanced painter). Michelle Conn
